Network Choices

1. Sprint
2. AT&T
3. ORBCOMM

1. Sprint

CrossBridge Solutions utilizes Sprint's CDMA/1xRTT/EV-DO network. 1xRTT - also known as CDMA2000 - is the "next generation” or “3G” version of CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access), one of the most reliable and accurate wireless transmission protocols available. 1xRTT allows for greater network capacity and much faster transmission speeds – up to 153 kilobits per second (kbps).

Some of the benefits of 1xRTT include cleaner data transmission, decreased packet loss, longer battery life, reduced background noise and interference, improved security and privacy, greater capacity and greater coverage for lower cost.

1xRTT was first commercialized in October 2000 in South Korea. Since then, more than 70 operators on six continents have launched 1xRTT services. Networks and devices supporting these services are backward compatible with those based on 2G CDMA, preserving operator spectrum and equipment investments, while providing best-in-class data capability

The next generation of 1xRTT is EV-DO (Evolution Data Optimized), or Wireless High-Speed Data, which is a fast wireless broadband access without the need for a WiFi hotspot. EV-DO is always on, with seamless roaming and has speeds averaging 2,400 kbps. Customers can access their corporate VPN, anywhere they can get a cellular signal, via a secure, encrypted signal, or they can download and run video clips in real time. EV-DO allows rich application usage and high capacity wtih relatively low cost.

2. AT&T

CrossBridge Solutions utilizes AT&T's data network which is General Packet Radio Service (GPRS). GPRS is the “next generation” or “3G” evolution of the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) wireless technology. Capable of running at speeds up to 150 kbps, GPRS is much faster than GSM's 9.6 kbps and uses Internet Protocol (IP) for Data Transmission. GPRS increases network efficiency and speed in addition to providing greater accuracy and lower packet loss rates than earlier generations of wireless service.

The next evolution of GPRS is EDGE (Enhances Data for GSM Environment) that will transmit data at up to 384 kbps. EDGE provides up to three times the data capacity of GPRS. EDGE uses the same frame structure, logic channel and carrier bandwidth as the GSM networks, which allows it to be overlaid directly onto an existing GSM network.

Modems use a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) smart card that contains user account information. Any GPRS modem becomes immediately programmed after plugging in the SIM card, creating greater flexibility and ease of programming the wireless data device.

3. ORBCOMM

Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellites typically have a circular orbit about 150 kilometers above the Earth's surface and take about 90 minutes to revolve around the Earth. Satellites in LEO change their position relative to the ground position quickly, so a large number of satellites is needed to provide uninterrupted connectivity. A group of satellites working together to provide continual coverage is known as a constellation. ORBCOMM is one of the first commercial providers of global LEO satellite data communication services. LEO satellite technology allows tracking of remote and mobile assets, monitoring of remote utility meters, gas and oil storage tanks, wells and pipelines, and maintains communication with remote workers. Message traffic flows between the satellites and Gateway Earth Stations (GES), then through various types of connecions to the end user. By utilizing satellite communication services, you can have ubiquitous coverage for your wireless data solutions.
